Gandhinagar, named after the father of the Nation is the new capital city, of Gujarat, on the banks of the Sabarmati River and is about 32 kms. from Ahmedabad. In 1960 during the partition, Bombay city went into Maharashtra and it was then decided to construct a new capital for Gujarat. It is the second planned city in India after Chandigarh and presents a spacious, well-organized look of an architecturally integrated city. The famous Swaminarayan temple of is built here.

Akshardham :- Akshardam has become an unusual attraction of Gandhinagar with the famous temple of "Swaminarayan Sect" - the richest sect in the world. It is a unique cultural complex built in memory of Lord Swaminrayan. It is a miracle worked by the service and devotion of thousands of volunteers and is an intricately carved, majestic monument of 6000 tons of pink sand stone awash with spiritual stillness. It is a place of education, entertainment and enlightenment.
