About Kovalam

           Kullu Valley -The Valley of Gods is perhaps the most delightful region in the Western Himalayas and is now the district headquarters of the valley but is not the main tourist centre. It was once known as Kulanthpitha- "the end of the habitable world”. This town has long been a centre of faith and is famous for its temples and the annual Dussehra festival.

Attractions In & Around
Bajaura :- Here is the famous temple of Basheshar Mahadev with fine stone carvings and sculptures and is believed to have been built in the mid 8th century. It is truly an incredible structure.

Bijli Mahadev Shrine :-  (2460 m)10 kms. from Kulu across the Beas river, this temple is one of the striking temples in the temples. A panoramic view of Kulu & Paravati valleys can be seen from the temple A 60 feet high staff of Bijli Mahadev temple glistens like a silver needle in the sun.

Camping Sight Raison :-  (1433 m)16kms. away from Kulu, the sight is ideal for spending a quiet holiday and for holding youth camps. There are a large number of orchards in this part of the valley. HPTDC has log cabins for comfortable stay.

Kasol :-  (1640 m)It is situated on the banks of the river Paravati and makes a good holiday destination. The place is well known for trout fishing.

Katrain :-  (1463 m)This is the central and the widest part of the valley, and is 20 kms. from Kulu on way to Manali. Apple orchards and trout hatchery lend charm and prominence to the place and it is also famous for bee keeping.

Malana :- Malana is famous for its traditional democratic set up and lush green hills. It is interesting to note that the villagers themselves settle all the disputes of the village and there is no interference of the outsiders.

Manikaran :-  (1700 m)45 kms. from Kullu, here are hot sulphur springs which bubble next to the icy waters of the Parvati river. The place is revered by the both Hindus and Sikhs. The route finally reaches the Pin Parvati Pass, which opens into the Sutlej Valley.

Naggar :-  (1760 m)Once the capital of erstwhile Kulu state, Naggar is delightfully situated on a wooded slope. One finds a large number of famous temples of Vishnu, Tripura Sundari & Lord Krishana. Roerich art gallery houses the paintings and sculptures of Nicholas Roerich. Naggar is also a base for undertaking treks to Chanderkhani Pass.

Raghunath Temple :- This temple was built by Raja Jagat Singh to house the statue of Lord Ragunath-Lord Rama. The main tourist attraction of Kullu is the Raghunath Temple, dedicated to Lord Ram, who is one of the principal deities of the Hindu religious pantheon.

Getting in, Around & Away
AIR : Indian Airlines, Trans Bharat Aviation and Jagson flights with Delhi & Shimla connect Kulu. The airport is at Bhuntar, 10kms. from Kulu.
RAIL : Nearest convenient railheads are Kalka, Chandigarh and Pathankot on Broad Gauge from where Kulu can be reached by road.
