Udaipur: Renowned globally for its scenic lakes and vibrant tourism, Udaipur requires a comprehensive developmental approach to ensure the progress of its adjoining areas. KK Gupta, Rajasthan’s State Coordinator for Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), has urged the government to integrate nearby settlements and gram panchayats into the Udaipur Municipal Corporation. Gupta stressed that this step would ensure planned development and efficient civic management of these areas.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Gupta emphasized that the growing influx of domestic and international tourists demands a cleaner and more organized city. He proposed that areas such as Bhuwana, Badgaon, Titardi, Bedla, Savina Kheda, Sisarma, Debari, Balicha, and several others be brought under the municipal jurisdiction for better governance and infrastructure development.
The Plight of Surrounding Areas
Gupta highlighted that while Udaipur thrives as a tourist hotspot, its neighboring settlements suffer from neglect. The lack of basic amenities, unclean surroundings, and broken roads leave both residents and visitors disheartened. He pointed out that despite the collection of substantial development fees by the Udaipur Urban Improvement Trust from these areas, their development remains stagnant.
A Vision for Comprehensive Growth
Gupta appealed for the transfer of unutilized funds and lands from these settlements to the municipal corporation, emphasizing that this step aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of "Developed India" and Rajasthan’s goals for sustainable progress. He called for the provision of essential facilities, such as clean drinking water, proper sanitation, better roads, and environmental preservation, to improve the living standards of residents and enhance the city’s appeal to tourists.
Call to Action
Highlighting the dire conditions in these neglected areas, Gupta described them as hubs of pollution, with widespread garbage, stray animals, and dilapidated infrastructure. He stressed that these issues adversely affect public health, tourism, and the state’s reputation.
In his letter to the Chief Minister, Gupta also requested stringent action through district administration to ensure cleanliness across Udaipur, especially considering the significant tourist footfall. He underlined the need for urgent and sustained efforts to restore the city’s image as a clean and beautiful destination.
This integration proposal, if acted upon, could pave the way for a well-maintained Udaipur, offering its residents a better quality of life while presenting an enchanting experience to visitors from around the globe.
