GMCH hosted the 38th Annual State-Level Conference of the Indian Psychiatric

The Geetanjali Medical College hosted the 38th Annual State-Level Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society's two-day event on Saturday in the Department of Psychiatry. Mr. J.P. Agrawal, President of the Geetanjali Group, Executive Director Mr. Ankit Agrawal, and Vice-Chancellor Dr. F.S. Mehta were present at the program. Dr. Jitendra Jainagar, the head of the Psychiatry Department, conducted the program and honored the best research papers from the previous year. Dr. Mahak Agrawal from SMS Medical College was chosen for the Gahlot Award. Dr. Manu Sharma and Dr. Sachi Mehta from Geetanjali Medical College received the Solanki Awards, and Dr. Akshar Patel was honored with the Best Research Paper and the Jaipur Award. Dr. Anil Kumar Kumawat and Dr. Dheeraj Goya were also part of the event.

This year, the conference also featured the unveiling of the Life Fellows Directory for the first time. In the conference, Dr. Raghav Shah from Jaipur discussed the legalization of cannabis, and Dr. Y.P.S. Balhara from AIIMS Delhi provided information about E-cigarettes. Dr. Ashwin Mohan from Chandigarh and Dr. Atul Ambekar and Dr. Ravindra Rao from AIIMS Delhi presented their thoughts on deaddiction centers and drug decriminalization, focusing on the legal and ethical aspects. Dr. Akhilesh Jain was elected as the President.

A panel discussion on how deaddiction centers could be operated legally to provide effective treatment for patients, leading to their recovery and reintegration into society, was conducted. On Sunday, postgraduate students and mental health specialists from the state read various research papers, including award-winning ones. Dr. Suresh Badamath from NIMHANS, Bangalore, enlightened the audience about the legal and ethical issues surrounding the prescription of psychiatric medications by non-psychiatric specialists. The program concluded with a valedictory ceremony.
