Bihu Dance Showcases Beautiful Assamese Culture

In various states across the country, especially in rural areas where folk culture thrives, there is a tradition of celebrating the harvest season with folk dances, enjoying local delicacies, and wearing new clothes. This was beautifully displayed on Thursday at the 'Shilpgram Festival' at the Western Regional Cultural Centre in Udaipur, where dancers performed the graceful steps of Haryana's Ghoomar and Assam's Bihu dance. Additionally, the Rathwa dance from Gujarat and the Gotipua dance from Odisha, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, combined acrobatic feats with dance, impressing the audience.

The program began with the beats of Nagara, Garasia dance, Purulia Chhau, Manganiyar singing, and the Marwari white Angi Gher dance, which had the audience swaying in joy. The rhythmic beats of the changu and the dance of the gheriyas in the white Angi Gher reminded the audience of the children’s hunt during Holi. In fact, this gher is performed on the first Holi of any child in the family.
