Heading to Inspect the Lake Lover Sitting on the Diving Machine

Udaipur,– Even after nearly eighteen years have passed, the futile flow of water into the lake through the sewer lines continues unabated.

On Thursday, lake conservation committee members including lake specialist Dr. Anil Mehta, former member of the Lake Development Authority Tej Shankar Paliwal, Director of Gandhi Human Welfare Committee Nand Kishor Sharma, Director of Abhinav Institute Kushal Raval, lake enthusiast Drupad Singh, Ramesh Chandra Rajput, climbed onto the diving machine and reached the manhole inside the Picchola Lake to observe the flow of lake water through the sewer lines.

Dr. Mehta, the lake specialist, mentioned that due to certain flaws in the sewerage systems of the old sewer lines laid in 1981, the Neri Plan sewer lines of 2005, and the sewerage systems installed under the Amrit Plan and the Smart City Plan, water from the lake is being wasted.

Mehta stated that to halt this catastrophe, as the lake gradually empties, the inner walls, the repair of embankments, and the maintenance of ghats need to be carried out to minimize the outflow in the horizontal direction from the lake. In some places, the lake walls require curtain grouting. Each pair of manholes and the lines connecting them, along with the branch lines meeting them, should be treated as a unit and thoroughly examined for precise improvements.

Tej Shankar Paliwal asserted that regular maintenance and periodic repair of both new and old sewer lines will be necessary. Devices measuring the flow rate need to be installed in selected manholes so that fluctuations in flow can be monitored.

Nand Kishor Sharma noted that connecting sewer lines to channel dirty household water is not a complex task, but negligence or errors in design, construction, and maintenance at any stage can lead to hazardous outcomes. Udaipur is currently facing the repercussions of such neglect.

Kushal Raval emphasized that in a place where one government is advocating drop by drop water conservation, due to some flaws and negligence, hundreds of thousands of liters of lake water are being wasted daily.

Drupad Singh and Ramesh Chandra expressed their confidence that the Lake Development Authority and the Smart City Company will promptly address this issue.
