Udaipur, Hindustan Zinc Limited (NSE: HINDZINC), India's largest and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer, has been recognized for its outstanding contributions to social welfare at the CSR Impact Awards 2024. The company won awards in the **Water and Sanitary Health (WASH)** and **Promotion of Sports** categories.
Hindustan Zinc was honored in the WASH category for its pioneering work in addressing water scarcity and sanitation in Rajasthan. The company established Udaipur’s first Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) along with several Reverse Osmosis (RO) Hubs and RO ATMs in nearly 50 villages, providing access to clean drinking water and improving sanitation in local communities. The STP, developed as a public-private partnership (PPP) project, can purify 60 million liters of sewage per day, significantly reducing the sewage flow into rivers and lakes, enhancing aquatic life, and promoting environmental sustainability.
The **Zinc Football Academy**, recognized in the **Promotion of Sports** category, has made remarkable strides in promoting football at the grassroots level. This academy offers world-class training to young talents, fostering the next generation of footballers. Six players, including Mohamad Kaif and Sahil Poonia, have already been selected for the national team, with many others advancing to state and district teams. This initiative has significantly impacted youth development and sports culture in the region.
In addition to these initiatives, Hindustan Zinc continues to focus on holistic community development through programs that support education, healthcare, sanitation, and sustainable livelihoods, benefitting around 2 million people across 3700 villages. Ranked among India’s top 10 CSR contributors, the company is committed to empowering communities, particularly women and children.
Hindustan Zinc Limited, part of the Vedanta Group, is globally recognized for its sustainability efforts in the metals and mining sector, including its low-carbon 'green' zinc brand, EcoZen, and its leadership in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.
