Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani’s One-Year Tenure:

Renowned for his innovative approach and visionary leadership, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani has completed a year filled with remarkable achievements. His tenure as the 18th Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly has been a testament to his dedication toward modernization, efficiency, and the preservation of Rajasthan’s cultural heritage.

One of the most notable changes under his leadership has been the transformation of the Assembly hall’s green carpet to a pink one, aligning it with Jaipur’s identity as the Pink City. The pink carpet not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the Assembly but also symbolizes Jaipur’s cultural grandeur. This change comes after nearly 24 years since the Assembly moved to its current building in Jyoti Nagar in 2001.

In January 2025, the upcoming Assembly session will mark the debut of the new pink carpet. Plans are also underway to equip each legislator’s desk with computers, transitioning the Assembly into a paperless and digitally advanced institution. The third session of the 16th Assembly will thus embrace a fully digital format, enhancing operational efficiency and transparency.

A Year of Significant Reforms

During his tenure, Speaker Vasudev Devnani has implemented several initiatives, including:

Inauguration of Rajasthan Constitution Club: Modeled after the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, the Rajasthan Constitution Club is set to open under the guidance of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, providing legislators with a state-of-the-art facility.

Solar Panel Installation: Efforts have been made to reduce electricity consumption by installing solar panels in the Assembly building and the newly constructed legislators’ residence.

All-Party Meetings and Lunch Breaks: Devnani introduced all-party meetings and reintroduced lunch breaks during Assembly sessions, fostering better discussions and cooperation.

Timely Responses: He ensured timely responses to Assembly questions and reports from various committees, enhancing accountability.

Devnani has also worked toward strengthening digital systems, enabling the public and researchers to access Assembly bills, reports, and videos online. Furthermore, he plans to increase the number of Assembly sessions to three per year, aligning with parliamentary practices.

Opening Doors to the Public

In a groundbreaking move, Devnani opened the doors of the Rajasthan Assembly to the public. The digital museum now attracts students and tourists alike, featuring a Constitution gallery that showcases India’s original Constitution with beautiful depictions of its 22 parts. The gallery highlights India’s rich heritage, from Mohenjo-Daro to the Mahabharata, and historical icons like Rani Lakshmi Bai, Subhash Chandra Bose, and Chhatrapati Shivaji.

A Legacy of Innovation and Vision

Devnani has also introduced a calendar and diary aligned with the Indian lunar calendar, featuring images of India’s heroes and warriors. Under his leadership, the Rajasthan branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association has gained momentum, and he has represented India in global forums, inspiring the diaspora to contribute to the nation’s development.

A Proponent of Cultural and Educational Reforms

An engineer by education and a seasoned politician by practice, Devnani embodies the essence of Indian tradition and culture. As a five-time MLA from Ajmer North, he took his oath in Sanskrit, showcasing his deep respect for Indian heritage. His tenure as Education Minister was marked by significant reforms, including changes in textbooks to honor historical figures like Maharana Pratap.

Vasudev Devnani’s relentless efforts and innovative ideas have placed Rajasthan’s Assembly on the path to becoming one of the best in the country, reflecting his vision for a progressive and culturally enriched Rajasthan.
