Extra ₹10 Charged on ₹8 Meals Sparks Controversy

Kota: Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar continued his Holi Milan tour in his constituency for the second day, visiting various wards under Kota South Municipal Corporation. During a Holi Milan program in Dharampura’s Bheel Basti, Ward No. 8, and later in Banda village, locals informed him about irregularities at the village’s Annapurna Rasoi.

Residents complained that the Rasoi’s operator, Prashant, was charging extra money for meals. When questioned, Prashant explained that he provided five rotis and vegetables for ₹8, but an additional coupon worth ₹10 was required for extra food.

Minister Dilawar confronted him, asking on whose orders the additional ₹10 was being collected. Prashant disclosed that the Annapurna Rasoi had been allocated to Pankaj Vijayvargiya, who had sublet it to him and instructed him to charge ₹10 beyond the stipulated meal price.

Expressing his displeasure, Minister Dilawar condemned the act, stating that the government introduced the scheme to provide full meals to the poor for ₹8, with an additional subsidy of ₹22 per meal, making it a ₹30 provision. He reprimanded the operator for exploiting the poor and immediately instructed Kota District Collector to cancel the contract of Banda’s Annapurna Rasoi.

Additionally, during the Holi Milan program, Minister Dilawar announced a grant of ₹10 lakh for the construction of a community hall in the village.

Water Cooler Installed, But No Tap Attached

Minister Dilawar also witnessed an instance of municipal negligence in Banda village. A water cooler, funded by his quota, had been installed, featuring his photo alongside Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s. However, the cooler was non-functional as officials had forgotten to install a tap.

Villagers complained that despite being installed long ago, the water cooler remained unused due to the missing tap. Enraged, Minister Dilawar reprimanded Assistant Engineer Lakshminarayan and ordered an inspection of all water coolers installed in the area. He instructed that all necessary fixtures be completed within seven days to ensure proper functionality.
