Shilpgram Festival 2024 Inaugurated in Udaipur

Udaipur’s renowned Shilpgram Festival commenced on Saturday evening, inaugurated by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kishanrao Bagde. Addressing the gathering at the open-air amphitheater, Governor Bagde highlighted the importance of folk arts, stating, "Folk arts illuminate life and foster collective consciousness." Remembering the legacy of Maharana Pratap, he said, "The indomitable spirit of Maharana Pratap made Mewar's land sacred and preserved India’s cultural identity."

The festival, organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, is being held from December 21 to December 30, 2024. Governor Bagde inaugurated the festival by striking the traditional drum and lighting the ceremonial lamp, accompanied by MP Mannalal Rawat and MLA Phool Singh Meena.

Director of WZCC, Furqan Khan, welcomed the guests and provided insights into the festival. Governor Bagde lauded the efforts of the WZCC team for bringing together artisans, performers, and culinary experts from across India, making Shilpgram a hub of cultural unity.

The inaugural day witnessed electrifying performances, including the ‘Rhythm of India Musical Symphony,’ featuring over 50 musicians on traditional instruments, and ‘Colors of India,’ a mesmerizing folk dance presentation by 225 dancers.

The Governor presented the Dr. Komal Kothari Lifetime Achievement Folk Art Awards to Dr. Roop Singh Shekhawat (Bhavai Folk Dance) and Ganpat Sakharam Masge (Puppetry & Painting), each awarded ₹2.51 lakh and a silver plaque.

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is expected to visit the festival on Sunday to explore its vibrant offerings.

Adding a new flavor, the ‘Hivda Ri Hook’ program will begin on Sunday, offering a platform for all music lovers to showcase their talent daily from 12 PM to 4 PM. The event will also feature a cultural quiz with winners receiving exclusive Shilpgram mementos.
