Specialized Treatment Underway for Ailing Elephant Ramu in Udaipur

Udaipur, Central Area, Reti Stand — The Forest Department has made comprehensive arrangements for the treatment and care of a sick elephant named Ramu, located near the Aawari Mata Temple premises.

Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Udaipur, Sunil Kumar Singh, informed that under the guidance of Principal Chief Conservator S.R. Yadav, appropriate management and veterinary care are being provided. A medical committee formed by Dr. Suresh Jain, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, includes Dr. Shailendra Shukla, Dr. Mahendra Mehta, and Dr. Karmendra Pratap, who are monitoring the situation alongside the Forest Department.

Expert elephant veterinarians from Wildlife SOS, Mathura, and Vantara, Jamnagar—Dr. Govind and Dr. Pramod—are directing the treatment efforts.

Mr. Singh stated that the elephant is currently lying down and is not in a condition to be moved. Guidance has also been taken from retired Additional Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, Dr. Sharad Arora, who emphasized that the elephant should not be relocated at this stage.

Necessary treatments and portable X-rays have been conducted using an 80 M.A. machine. The wounds have been dressed, and laser therapy has been administered. A tent has been erected over the elephant for shade, and additional comfort measures like coolers, sand, and cushioned bags have been arranged. Forest personnel remain deployed on site for ongoing care and monitoring.
