MPUAT : Water Conservation Awareness Program

 Aone-day water conservation and preservation awareness program was organized at the Shiva Temple complex in Smart Village Brahmano Ki Hunder under Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology. Dr. Raghuveer Singh Rathore, Advisor to the Smart Village initiative, shared that the Soil and Water Engineering Department, in collaboration with the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, conducted this program. The event focused on sharing knowledge about water availability, productivity, and quality.

Dr. Rathore emphasized the increase in water contamination and disease risks post-rainfall and provided preventive measures. The program also highlighted the importance of water conservation and the preservation of trees planted in the temple premises. Dr. Pratim Das, SRF, CTAE, Udaipur, provided information on measuring water quality and identifying potable water. He conducted quality tests on water from nearby ponds and tubewells using available equipment, stressing the need for water purifiers to ensure safety and avoid using contaminated water in agriculture.

Dr. Nirmalaya Kumar Nath, SRF, ACRIP, CTAE, Udaipur, discussed rainwater harvesting and its utilization. He explained various water collection structures such as anicuts, recharge shafts, underground dykes, tanks, rooftop water collection, and water filters. Farmers showed interest in managing rainwater and pledged to prevent water wastage.

The program also suggested constructing various structures to prevent soil erosion and develop barren land using rainwater. At the end of the event, agricultural supervisors Gopal Lal Meena and Hukam Chand Meena thanked all the farmers and attendees, noting that a total of 30 beneficiaries were served. They also addressed some water management issues raised by the farmers with the help of the department's team members.
