### 25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas Celebrated at MPUAT

**Udaipur, July 26:** Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT) celebrated the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas with a grand ceremony on Friday. The event took place at the newly built auditorium of Rajasthan Agricultural College. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ajeet Kumar Karnataka unfurled the tricolor with the proclamation of "Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga Pyara" and paid homage to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War.

The ceremony began with RCA students, NCC cadets, and university staff saluting the martyrs under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Karnataka emphasized the valorous history of the Indian Army, particularly highlighting the Kargil War as a significant victory fought under adverse conditions.

In his address, Dr. Karnataka recalled the events without directly mentioning Pakistan, highlighting how peace talks were ongoing in Lahore while soldiers and artillery were being amassed on the difficult terrains of Kargil. Thanks to shepherd Tashi Namgyal, who witnessed the buildup and informed the Indian Army, prompt action was taken. Despite the enemy occupying key positions, the Indian Army deployed 200,000 soldiers from various regiments across the country. In the two-month-long war, 527 Indian soldiers were martyred, while 2,700 Pakistani soldiers were killed.

Dr. Karnataka explained that Kargil falls under Ladakh, which was part of Jammu and Kashmir during the war. He elaborated on the historical significance of Kargil, previously known as Purig.

The date July 26, 1999, holds immense importance for India as it marks the day when Indian soldiers liberated peaks like Tiger Hill, Point 4875, and Point 5140 from Pakistani forces, symbolizing India's victory and the bravery of its soldiers. Dr. Karnataka noted the challenges of mountain warfare, emphasizing the extraordinary courage shown by the Gorkha regiment.

Reflecting on 1999, Dr. Karnataka mentioned that MPUAT was established on November 1, 1999, named after the great warrior Maharana Pratap. He stressed that patriotism is essential for every individual.

RCA Dean Dr. R.B. Dubey honored Vice-Chancellor Dr. Karnataka and Registrar Dr. B.D. Kumawat with traditional Mewari safas, shawls, and floral bouquets. Assistant Dean of Student Welfare Ramhari Meena gave the vote of thanks, and Dr. Latika Sharma conducted the event.

### Kargil Vijay Diwas

A moment of curiosity arose during the event when the Vice-Chancellor asked students if they were born after July 26, 1999. About 75% of the students raised their hands, indicating that the current generation of college students was born after the Kargil War. Dr. Karnataka remarked that India's strength and the valor of Indian soldiers must be shared with present and future generations through programs like Kargil Vijay Diwas.
