###PIMS : A Beacon of Hope for Opioid Toxicity Cases

Udaipur - PIMS Hospital Umarda recently received praise for its excellent care and swift intervention in a critical opioid toxicity case. Mohan Gadare (65) from Savaria was brought to the emergency department on July 19 at 7 PM with high-grade fever, muscle and neck stiffness, constricted pupils, and inability to walk, speak, or eat for a day. He reported consuming approximately 50 grams of opium. Given the severity of his condition, he was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Chairman Ashish Agarwal of PIMS Hospital stated that Gadare's CT brain scan showed no abnormalities, but his cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis revealed increased lymphocytes, protein, and cellularity. The multidisciplinary team at PIMS acted swiftly. Gadare was placed on a ventilator and given the antidote naloxone for opioid overdose, along with antibiotics and levetiracetam. Dr. Amit Kumar closely monitored his condition for three days, leading to significant improvement, and Gadare recovered successfully on the fifth day. He was then transferred to the psychiatric ward for opioid withdrawal management. The hospital management waived Gadare's fees, considering his financial difficulties. Gadare's family expressed deep gratitude for the excellent care and timely treatment provided by PIMS Hospital. PIMS Hospital Umarda stands as a vital resource for tackling opioid use and related issues. The dedicated team includes Professor Praveen Khairkar, Professor Rajesh Khoiwal, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Archish Khivsara, and Dr. Ishu Baml, all working together to provide top-notch medical services to the community.
