Udaipur, December 6 – Professor Bhagwati Prakash Sharma, Chairperson of Planning and Control at Pacific University, has been re-elected as the Chairperson of the UNESCO-led Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) for the term 2025–2026.
During the Governing Board meeting held on December 5-6, delegates from various Asia-Pacific countries, including the United States, Japan, France, Indonesia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan, unanimously supported Professor Sharma's reappointment.
Key Highlights of the Meeting
The board approved the institute's annual work plan and budget for the upcoming year. While presiding over the meeting, Professor Sharma emphasized finalizing the institute's strategies and allocating responsibilities among officials. He also stressed strengthening coordination with UNESCO Headquarters to ensure seamless execution of the plans.
Focus Areas and Achievements
The MGIEP, a "Category A" institute operating across the Asia-Pacific region, focuses on education and research in areas such as kindness, biodiversity, global citizenship, and sustainable development. Over the past year, the institute has successfully trained more than 230,000 learners in these critical subjects.
Professor Sharma's re-election reflects the trust and confidence of the Governing Board in his leadership and vision for promoting peace and sustainable development through education in the region.
