District-Level Road Safety Committee Meeting Held to Discuss Measures for Reducing Accidents

Sri Ganganagar,  A district-level road safety committee meeting was held on Thursday at the district collectorate under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Manju. During the meeting, the progress of various activities aimed at reducing road accidents was reviewed, and necessary directions were given to the police, traffic, and PWD officials.

Dr. Manju emphasized the need to reward those who transport accident victims to the hospital under the Chief Minister’s Ayushman Jeevan Raksha Yojana. She instructed the traffic police to take appropriate action to improve the city's traffic management. Additionally, the District Collector directed the Municipal Development Trust to begin operating traffic lights at the identified locations. The Trust officer informed that traffic lights at Sukhadia Circle would be activated soon, while repairs at Chahal Chowk are underway, and after that, traffic lights will be installed at Mira Chowk as well.

To prevent accidents involving stray animals, the Municipal Council and municipality officials were instructed to put reflective collars on stray animals. The District Collector also highlighted the need to address road accidents caused by fog during winter and directed the NHAI to install signboards. She further recommended conducting workshops for transporters, private buses, and school vehicle operators to ensure road safety, as well as removing dried trees and bushes from roadsides.

Strict action will be taken by the District Transport Department against drivers who violate road safety rules and overload vehicles. Dr. Manju also emphasized that those who transport road accident victims to the hospital should be encouraged and rewarded through the Chief Minister’s Ayushman Jeevan Raksha Yojana.

During the meeting, Superintendent of Police, Mr. Gaurav Yadav, suggested that identified black spots should be addressed by the relevant departments to prevent accidents. He emphasized that immediate action should be taken by the police, health, and other concerned departments to save the lives of accident victims. He also stressed the need for collective efforts to improve traffic management.

The meeting also discussed increasing the parking area near the Kotwali Police Station, removing obstacles from busy roads and intersections, clearing encroachments through persuasion, and designating vending and non-vending zones by the Municipal Council. The meeting was informed about the integrated road accident database through a presentation by IRAD Manager, Mr. Harvinder Singh.

Present at the meeting were CO Traffic, Mr. Ramesh Machra, DTO Mr. Awadhesh Choudhary, CDEO Mr. Girjesh Kant, PWD SE Mr. JP Suthar, NH Bikaner representatives Mr. Lav Mudgal, Reco RM Mr. MC Meena, NHAI Hanumangarh officials Mr. Pawan Singh, Mr. Virendra Mittal, Mr. Tarseem Gupta, Municipal Development Trust Executive Engineer Mr. Surendra Poonia, and other officials.
