Udaipur's Swayam Becomes Rajasthan's Youngest FIDE-Rated Chess Player

Udaipur, Success knows no age, as demonstrated by 6-year-old Swayam Vyas from Udaipur, currently residing in Bhilwara. Swayam recently earned his FIDE rating by outplaying seasoned competitors in a chess tournament organized under the approval of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in Bhilwara. At just 6 years and 2 months old, Swayam has become the youngest player in Rajasthan to achieve a FIDE rating.

Swayam's father, Swapnil Vyas, explained that according to FIDE rules, chess players are categorized as either rated or unrated. To obtain a FIDE rating, a player must defeat or draw against at least three players who are already on the FIDE rating list. In a national-level competition held in Bhilwara in July 2024, Swayam achieved this feat, securing his FIDE rating. FIDE awarded him a rating of 1469. Swapnil also shared that Swayam has been playing chess since the age of 3 and has been training under Giriraj Singh Ranawat in Bhilwara for the past six months. 

Notably, Swapnil works for an insurance company in Bhilwara, while his wife, Megha Vyas, is a homemaker. Megha, who was previously a lecturer at a private college, decided to leave her job to fully support and nurture her son's passion for chess.
