World Soil Day Celebrated at B.N. Agricultural College

Udaipur: World Soil Day was celebrated at B.N. Agricultural College on Thursday. During the event, the Dean of the college, Dr. Fateh Lal Sharma, informed the students that human health is dependent on the health of the soil. He emphasized that it is our responsibility to take care of the soil’s health. He also advised minimizing the use of chemical fertilizers during crop cultivation and increasing the use of organic fertilizers. The Dean urged students to encourage their parents and farmers to use organic fertilizers in their fields. 

On this occasion, the students were also informed about the origins of World Soil Day, which was initiated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. Russian soil scientist, geographer, and soil scientist Vasily Dokuchaev is widely regarded as the father of soil science. He was the first person to consider soil as a living system and view it as a biological science. 

The university’s Chairperson, Colonel Prof. Shiv Singh Sarangdevot, President Dr. M. S. Agarwal, Managing Director Mohabbat Singh Rathore, and University Registrar Dr. Niranjan Narayan Singh Rathore congratulated everyone and, in their messages, highlighted that the aim of the event was to educate and raise awareness about the threats to our soil. They stressed that soil conservation is crucial for life. 

The event was organized under the guidance of Program Officer Dr. P. S. Rao, with the involvement of the N.S.S. department. Dr. Rao provided detailed information about the importance of soil during the event. The program was conducted by Ms. Preksha Nagar.
