Seminar Held on the Eve of Human Rights Day

Udaipur: The rights granted by the Constitution are the same as those granted under human rights law, but due to a lack of awareness, the general public is deprived of their rights. These views were expressed by Justice Ramchandra Singh Jhala, Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission, as the chief guest at a seminar organized on the eve of Human Rights Commission Day by the Bhupal Nobles University’s constituent Law College.

Justice Jhala stated that after World War II, there was a significant violation of human rights, and in response, countries came together to ensure their protection, leading to the establishment of human rights commissions. Human rights are granted to individuals from birth, and the commission has granted several rights to the public. He emphasized that there needs to be fear of the law among criminals. The commission holds powers akin to those of a civil court and can summon anyone involved in a case. Jhala further explained to future advocates about the commission's functions and responsibilities, urging them to ensure that the general public is informed about human rights laws. He added that the commission can take cognizance of matters through news articles. He also mentioned that workplace harassment cases against women are common, but due to lack of knowledge, victims often endure in silence. He encouraged victims to bring their complaints to the commission, which can be done free of charge by post or through others. He also highlighted that prisoners cannot be deprived of their rights.

In the presidential address, Chairperson Colonel Prof. Shiv Singh Sarang Devot stated that human rights should be connected with human sensitivity, and there is also a need to include environmental protection under this scope. He explained that individuals, driven by self-interest, are continuously exploiting nature. He emphasized that the survival of humanity depends on the survival of nature. He pointed out that the protection of human rights is mentioned in our religious texts, and in line with this, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948, which first addressed the rights of the common people. Prof. Sarang Devot stressed the need to incorporate human rights into educational curricula to make future generations more aware of their rights. He discussed the importance of ensuring equality, freedom, and security for women as a sign of a developed society and highlighted the role of society and administration in protecting women's rights.

Prof. Mahendra Singh Rathod, Secretary of Bhupal Nobles Institute, shed light on the structure of the Human Rights Commission and its crucial role in protecting and promoting human rights at various levels. He emphasized that these rights provide every individual the opportunity to live a free and dignified life. Mohabbat Singh Rathod, Managing Director of Bhupal Nobles University, spoke about the importance of human rights, calling them the foundation of society. He urged everyone to stay aware of human rights and respect the rights of others.

Dr. Niranjan Narayan Singh Rathod, Registrar of Bhupal Nobles University, highlighted the significance of observing Human Rights Day. He stated that the day serves as a reminder to protect human rights and fulfill our responsibilities toward them. He appealed to students and youth to play an active role in spreading awareness about human rights.

Dr. Ashutosh Pitalia, Dean of the Law College, welcomed the guests, while Dr. Anila expressed thanks. Dr. Kiran Chauhan coordinated the event. Other attendees included Dr. Shikha Nagori, Dr. Pushp Lata Dangi, Dr. Krishna Ranawat, Piyush Chavan, and Abhimanyu Singh Chauhan.
