Understanding Kark Sankranti

Renowned astrologer Maharishi Yadvendra Dwivedi explained that Kark Sankranti marks the Sun's entry into the Cancer sign. According to the Hindu calendar, this signifies the end of the six-month Uttarayan period, as the Sun moves to Dakshinayan for the next six months. This year, Kark Sankranti will be on Tuesday, July 16, at 11:17 AM, when the Sun transitions from Gemini to Cancer. The day is significant for religious activities, as it is believed that worshiping the Sun on Kark Sankranti removes all faults and brings prosperity.

Importance of Kark Sankranti

Dr. Dwivedi elaborated that Kark Sankranti signals the onset of the monsoon and the season of greenery. During the four months of Dakshinayan, no auspicious events are held, and worship is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that worshiping the Sun on this day removes all ailments and brings happiness and prosperity. Rituals such as Aditya Hriday Stotra, Surya Chalisa, and Surya mantras are recited. Bathing in holy rivers and offering donations, especially in the name of ancestors, are considered highly beneficial.
