Beautify Gandhisagar to Create a Tourist and Scenic Spot: Kothari

Bhilwara – The issue of Gandhisagar, which has long been raised by local residents, was addressed by city MLA Ashok Kumar Kothari in the assembly, becoming the voice of the people. For the past 15 years, Gandhisagar has seen only announcements regarding its cleaning without any actual work. Kothari has now drawn the government's attention to the need for its beautification and development.

MLA Ashok Kothari, under Procedure 131, made a strong demand in the state assembly to Urban Development and Local Self-Government Minister Jhavar Singh Khara for the development of Gandhisagar. Kothari highlighted that currently, six small drains and one large drain are discharging the city's sewage and waste into the lake. He, along with a team of officials, has inspected the site, and presented recent photographs showing the ongoing pollution and litter. The island in the middle of Gandhisagar is overgrown with weeds and bushes. Residents have complained about the area being frequented by alcoholics, drug addicts, and antisocial elements, leading to frequent incidents of criminal behavior.

Kothari mentioned that the residents have been enduring this problem for the last 15 years with no change in the situation. He thanked the minister for approving a DPR worth Rs. 8 crore in the current budget but pointed out that this amount is insufficient. He argued that a larger budget is needed to develop Gandhisagar into a tourist and scenic spot akin to Fatehsagar in Udaipur.

Situated in the heart of the city, the development of Gandhisagar would offer residents a unique place for morning and evening walks. In response, Minister Jhavar Singh Khara assured that a 100% budget allocation would be made as per MLA Kothari's recommendations. He also directed the Municipal Commissioner to create the DPR reflecting Kothari's suggestions, promising that the development of Gandhisagar would provide the public with a unique gift.
