Meera Bai: A Symbol of Women's Awakening and Glory of the Bhakti Era - Prof. Sarangdevot

Udaipur  – On the occasion of Meera Jayanti, the Meera Study and Research Institute at Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth organized a seminar on "Meera Bai and Contemporary Literature." The seminar was held on Sharad Purnima, where the contributions of the revered saint Meera Bai were discussed.

Prof. Colonel S.S. Sarangdevot, the Vice Chancellor of the Vidyapeeth, emphasized that Meera Bai has established her identity as a symbol of women's strength during the Bhakti era, spreading the message of female empowerment in society. He stated that Meera's verses are imbued with humanity and convey not only the mystical but also worldly values. According to him, Meera was not associated with any particular class, and there is a need to present her verses authentically to the general public, as they continue to inspire even after five centuries.

Prof. Sarangdevot also announced the publication of an authentic work on Meera's life at the Vidyapeeth, aimed at assisting researchers in understanding her life and literature.

The seminar featured keynote speaker Prof. Manju Chaturvedi, who remarked that Meera's poetry embodies messages of women's empowerment and devotion. She highlighted the continued relevance of Meera's works, which inspire positive change in society. Prof. Chaturvedi described Meera as an ideal representation of women's consciousness, emphasizing her deep love and devotion to Krishna, alongside her struggles in both her maternal and marital homes. She asserted that attaining Krishna is possible through devotion earned over many lifetimes.

Prof. Simmi Singh Chauhan discussed various aspects of women's consciousness through her original poems dedicated to Meera. She recited a poem celebrating Meera's persona, portraying her as a beacon of strength and empowerment, and highlighting the sweetness and rhythm in her verses.

The seminar also featured insights from Chief Guest Prof. Vinaya Kheersagar, Chief Academic Officer of the Dharohar Institute and former Head of the Sanskrit Department at Deccan College, Pune.

Dr. Yajna Ameta, Coordinator of the Meera Study and Research Institute, conducted the event, while Dr. Chandraesh Chhatlani expressed gratitude on behalf of the team. Notable attendees included Dr. Paras Jain, Prof. Jeevan Singh Kharkwal, Prof. Pradeep Trika, Dr. Avneesh Nagar, Dr. Sunita Murdia, and several others who contributed to the discussion on Meera's enduring legacy.
