On the first foundation day of 'आई4सी' (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre), Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah emphasized that over the past nine years, the initiative has evolved from a concept to a strong institution, becoming a key pillar in India's cyber security. As the chief guest, Shah inaugurated four crucial platforms – Suspect Registry, Cyber Commando, Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre, and Coordination Platform – all aimed at fortifying the fight against cybercrime.
'आई4सी' was established in 2015 under the Safe Cyber Space initiative, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since Amit Shah took over as Home Minister in 2019, it has grown into a strong pillar of a cyber-secure India. Shah stressed that while technology is a boon, it also brings challenges, making cyber security a critical aspect of national security. In today's global village, no single entity can ensure cyber safety; it requires collaboration among multiple stakeholders, as cybercrime knows no boundaries.
Under the leadership of Amit Shah, 'आई4सी' is set to launch a massive public awareness campaign across 72+ TV channels, 190 radio stations, cinemas, and various other platforms. The campaign’s success hinges on educating the masses about cybercrime prevention, particularly by spreading awareness of the 1930 helpline number and 'आई4सी' platforms.
According to data, the number of internet users in India increased from 250 million in 2014 to 950 million by March 2024. The rise of digital services, such as 350 million Jan Dhan accounts and 360 million RuPay debit cards, along with UPI transactions totaling INR 20.64 trillion in 2024, has significantly expanded the scope of cyber fraud.
The world is facing various challenges, including the sale of personal data, online harassment, exploitation of women and children, fake news, and misinformation campaigns. Thanks to the visionary policies of Modi and Shah, 'आई4सी' is well-equipped to tackle these issues. It has issued over 600 advisories, blocked numerous websites, social media pages, mobile apps, and accounts run by cybercriminals. Seven joint cyber coordination teams have been formed in key locations such as Mewat, Jamtara, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Visakhapatnam, and Guwahati.
Amit Shah has always maintained that no single entity can combat cybercrime alone. All stakeholders and the public must join forces in this fight. With his strategic leadership, India is progressing toward a cybercrime-free nation, while also battling terrorism, left-wing extremism, and drug-related issues.
**Mrs. Ritu Paliwal, Principal of Aishwarya College**, emphasized that initiatives like 'आई4सी' are crucial in shaping a cyber-safe environment for the future generations and that educational institutions must play a pivotal role in raising awareness among students.
