Scuffle in Parliament: Politics Heats Up

A statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar sparked political turmoil in Parliament, disrupting proceedings for the second consecutive day on Thursday. Amidst the chaos, BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were reportedly injured in an alleged scuffle outside Parliament. Sarangi suffered injuries near his head and eye, and both were hospitalized. Additionally, accusations of misconduct against a tribal woman MP were raised, and she has lodged a complaint with the presiding officer.

BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj filed an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, charging him under six sections. On the other hand, Congress filed a complaint with the police, alleging misconduct against their president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Following the incident, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha J.P. Nadda condemned the events, calling them unfortunate. Congress, meanwhile, demanded that CCTV footage of the Parliament premises be made public. The issue escalated to Mumbai, where reports of an attack and vandalism at a Congress office by BJP workers surfaced.

The incident began on Thursday with protests by BJP and Congress MPs outside Parliament. Allegedly, Rahul Gandhi pushed BJP MPs during the protests. Congress President Kharge claimed it was a conspiracy by the BJP and maintained that their demonstration was peaceful.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused Rahul Gandhi of unruly and inappropriate behavior, describing the actions as unacceptable. In response to the growing tension, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla issued directives banning sit-ins and protests near any gate of the Parliament building.

The winter session of Parliament has seen prolonged disruptions, with eight to nine days already wasted, followed by further chaos in the past two days. The public, increasingly frustrated, has expressed their disappointment, stating that this scuffle has not just hurt MPs but has tarnished the dignity of Parliament itself.
