Training for Sarpanches on Child Protection Issues: Nirmala Meena

Workshop of Block-Level Child Protection Committee

Udaipur . As part of the Integrated Child Protection Scheme, a workshop meeting for the Block-Level Child Protection Committee was organized by the Rajasthan State Child Protection Commission on Friday at the Girwa Panchayat Samiti auditorium. The meeting focused on providing a safe and child-friendly environment for children, developing action plans on child rights issues, and ensuring community and panchayat participation.

Commission Member Secretary Nirmala Meena announced that training for sarpanches on child protection issues will be conducted in the future. She provided insights on various topics related to child protection and rights during the workshop. Commission member Rajiv Meghwal emphasized that the government has established several provisions for the protection of child rights and is sensitive to children's needs.

**Discussions Should Be Sensitive to Children's Issues**

Assistant Director of the Child Rights Department, Arooshi Jain, stated that discussions on children's issues should be approached with sensitivity. Children have the right to life, education, development, and safety. Various experts associated with child rights expressed that children should receive basic amenities, protection from exploitation, quality education, and opportunities for advancement, along with effective prevention of child labor. During the workshop, sarpanches from various gram panchayats shared information about activities related to child protection and rights in their respective areas.

**Parents Should Monitor Children's Activities**

Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Yashoda Paniya addressed the workshop, highlighting the significant role of elected representatives at the gram panchayat level in preventing child crimes. Discussions on child rights issues should also take place in gram sabhas. She noted that while the government is making every possible effort, community cooperation is essential to bring marginalized children into the mainstream. Additionally, she emphasized that it is the parents' responsibility to keep an eye on their children's activities, especially given the rise in cyber crimes due to excessive use of social media and other communication channels.

During the workshop, Child Line Coordinator Navneet Audichya shed light on the functions of the 1098 Child Helpline.

Present at the event were Girwa Pradhan Sajjan Katara, Assistant Protection Officer Rajkumar Jeengar, Girwa Block Development Officer Ajit Kumar Meena, along with committee members from child rights, education, and social justice departments, as well as various sarpanches and local representatives.
