Udaipur: The Udaipur Rural District Congress Committee submitted a memorandum to the Honorable Chief Minister of Rajasthan, through the District Collector, demanding the inclusion of urbanized village areas near the Udaipur Municipal Corporation limits into the city’s jurisdiction. This request was made under the leadership of Udaipur Rural District Congress President Kacharu Lal Choudhary.
Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit, spokesperson of the Udaipur Rural District Congress, explained that the longstanding demand for including these urbanized villages into the Municipal Corporation boundaries was raised today. The memorandum highlights that thousands of local residents live in colonies approved by the Urban Development Authority in these areas, but these colonies lack basic infrastructure like water and roads due to the limited funds of the village panchayats. The development of these colonies can only be achieved if these urbanized areas are included in the Municipal Corporation's limits through delimitation. Most of the village panchayats have already given their consent for this, and now it is up to the state government to take action before the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections to ensure the development of these areas.
After submitting the memorandum, Udaipur Rural District Congress President Kacharu Lal Choudhary addressed the media, stating that while the State Election Commission has begun preparations for local body elections, no process for delimitation has been initiated by the state government. He added that the Udaipur Municipal Corporation had submitted proposals for urban boundary expansion to the state government back in 2012, but the last extension of the city's limits occurred in 1969. For the past 55 years, the city's boundaries have remained unchanged, even though the villages close to the city have been urbanized over the last decade or so. These areas are facing development challenges due to the lack of funds in the village panchayats. Local representatives have repeatedly demanded that these areas be included within the Municipal Corporation limits, and failure to do so has caused many problems for residents. Delimiting these areas and including them in the Municipal Corporation’s boundaries will ensure proper development.
Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit also emphasized that residents of these colonies struggle for basic amenities. When they approach the Municipal Corporation for solutions, they are told that the areas are still under the village panchayat’s jurisdiction. The panchayats lack the necessary funds to provide essential services like street lighting, water connections, and waste management. Therefore, the only solution is to include these panchayats within the Municipal Corporation limits.
The memorandum was submitted by Udaipur Rural District Congress President Kacharu Lal Choudhary, District Congress Organization Secretary Gajendra Kothari, District Congress Spokesperson Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit, Dinesh Audichya, Laxmi Lal Soni, and Mahendra Damor.
