Promoting Water Conservation for Future Generations

In an event organized as part of the World Water Day week, a senior water advocate addressed the future generation at the Padmapat Singhania University auditorium, urging the use of the three “B’s” to ensure the availability of water for future generations. He emphasized the importance of the following measures:

1. **Save** – Conserve water throughout the day and avoid using soaps, detergents, or shampoos that waste water and cannot be reused for plants or animals.
2. **Do Not Waste** – Use water wisely to prevent misuse and wastage.
3. **Increase** – Store rainwater in hand pumps, tubewells, wells, or stepwells to recharge underground water levels.

He stressed that these three actions must be followed to achieve successful water conservation.

The program began with the water conservation song "Pani Re Pani Tera Rang Kaisa," which drew everyone’s attention to the growing water crisis. The speaker also shared alarming statistics: Only 22% of underground water is available—11% up to a depth of 800 meters and 11% below that. On the other hand, only 1% of water is available in lakes, rivers, and ponds, while the remaining 77% is stored in glaciers, which are gradually depleting due to global warming. In particular, Rajasthan is facing a severe groundwater crisis due to over-extraction.

He also highlighted the importance of implementing rooftop rainwater harvesting and surface rainwater harvesting systems in the coming months to increase the amount of water absorbed into the soil. Currently, only 6-8% of rainwater is being collected, and without improvement, future water security will remain unattainable.

Dr. P.C. Jain provided detailed information on the Devas Water Filter technique, an affordable, simple, and low-maintenance method to mix rainwater with underground water.

The event concluded with a "Kuen Ka Jal Aarti" (Well Water Prayer) to the tune of "Om Jai Jaldev Hare," with female students performing the ritual. The program was coordinated by Dr. Manish Dadhich (National Service Scheme) and Dr. Tulika Chakraborty, with Dr. P.C. Jain being thanked by Dr. Tulika Chakraborty for his contribution. Lieutenant Dr. D.S. Chauhan (Deputy Dean, Student Welfare) was also present.

In conclusion, the organizers thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr.) Prithvi Yadav, Campus Director Lieutenant Colonel Neeraj Kumar, Professor (Dr.) Prasun Chakraborty (Dean, Research), Administrative Head Mr. Sunil Pandey, Deans, Deputy Deans, Faculty Members, and NSS volunteers/students for their support and participation in the campaign.
