1500 Chess Masters Arrive for CBSE West Zone Inter-School Chess Tournament, Warm Welcome Extended

Udaipur — The CBSE West Zone Inter-School Chess Tournament, organized by MDS Public School, kicked off today at the MDS Public School branch in Pratap Nagar, Udaipur. This tournament, a first for Mewar, will run from September 14 to September 16, 2024.

Over 1500 skilled chess players from 150 schools across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh have arrived in Udaipur for this prestigious event. They were warmly welcomed with traditional tilak and garlands.

Director of the school, Shailendra Somani, reported that teams from all participating schools began arriving at the venue in the morning, and by evening, all 1500 players had reached the site. The tournament will officially commence with an opening ceremony tomorrow at 9:30 AM, featuring notable guests including MP Mannalal Rawat, District Collector Arvind Poswal, BJP City District President Ravindra Shrimali, BJP Rural District President Chandragupt Singh Chouhan, Vice-Chancellor of Janardan Rai Nagar University Prof. S.S. Sarangdevot, Director of Techno NJR Prof. R.S. Vyass, and Founder of Pacific University Rahul Agarwal. The event will be chaired by Dr. Rameshchandra Somani, Managing Trustee of MDS School.

The competition will be held in eight categories: Under-11, Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 for both boys and girls. The top two teams from each category will qualify for the National Inter-School Chess Tournament in Jalandhar.

Somani highlighted that this is the first time such a large-scale chess tournament is being held in Southern Rajasthan, with an anticipated participation of 500-600 players. MDS Public School has made comprehensive arrangements for the players' accommodation, food, and other needs.

The tournament will conclude on September 16, with Punjab Governor Gulabchand Kataria as the chief guest, who will award the winning players. The CBSE observer for the event is Chess Development Sahu.
