Udaipur: Governor Hari Bhau Kishanrao Bagde said that doctors are akin to gods for the general public. A person's faith and affection toward their treatment are vital, as they place complete trust in the doctor's advice. This makes the responsibility of doctors even more important.
He was speaking at the inauguration session of the 44th National Convention of the National Medical Organization (NMO) Namocon-2025 here on Saturday. The Governor urged doctors to place the spirit of service above all else and stated that serving humanity is equivalent to serving God. Swami Vivekananda and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay had also highlighted the significance of serving humanity as serving God. With this mindset, it is necessary to raise awareness about health, education, and service in society.
The Governor expressed concern that in recent times, human immunity has been weakening, and efforts to improve it are crucial. He noted that in earlier times, physical exercises like morning push-ups and workouts were an essential part of daily life, but this tradition is fading in modern lifestyles. He emphasized the need to revive this practice to encourage people toward healthier living. He also cited the example of the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, not only India but the entire world received significant assistance in overcoming the crisis.
He praised the National Medical Organization (NMO) and wished for the success of its convention. Sharing his childhood experiences, the Governor recalled his participation in social service activities.
The Governor emphasized the concept of "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah" (May all be happy) and the idea of viewing the world as one family. He mentioned how Western culture has affected our intellectual abilities, while India's medical sciences have been immensely rich for centuries. He referred to the efforts of invaders like Alauddin Khilji who attempted to destroy India’s intellectual wealth and knowledge traditions but asserted that Indian doctors have maintained their global stature despite adversities. He stressed that preserving ancient medical practices and traditional knowledge is our responsibility.
Discussing Macaulay’s educational system, the Governor remarked that this system was designed to weaken the nation’s roots, but now organizations like NMO will work to strengthen national service and awaken societal consciousness. He mentioned that efforts must begin from primary education, and the new education policy has provisions in this regard.
The Governor also urged NMO to ensure proper medical facilities are available in rural areas and emphasized that the government should ensure that no rural health center remains without a doctor.
