Udaipur: On the occasion of International Women's Day, Lacrosse players from the tribal community honored Division Commissioner Pragya Kevalramani for her continuous efforts in empowering tribal women and promoting tribal lacrosse players.
Coach Neeraj Batra informed that under the guidance of the Tribal Development Minister, Babulal Kharadi, the Division Commissioner played a crucial role in securing sponsorship from Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Limited for tribal athletes to participate in international and national competitions. Additionally, she facilitated the provision of a high-level hockey astro turf at Maharana Pratap Sports Complex for regular practice and competition. The Commissioner also ensured that tribal athletes from remote areas had access to hostels for group training and competition during summer vacations.
As a result of these efforts, seven women athletes from the tribal areas of Udaipur represented the Indian team, winning silver medals at the Asian Lacrosse Championship and dominating national competitions with gold medals in both men's and women's categories.
Batra further mentioned that due to the outstanding achievements of tribal players from Udaipur, the Rajasthan government has announced the establishment of a Lacrosse Academy in Udaipur as part of its budget, to nurture future lacrosse talent and ensure continuous excellence.
The event was attended by several distinguished athletes, including Sunita Meena, Captain of the Indian Team and silver medalist at the Asian Lacrosse Championship, along with other medalists and coaches, such as Jula Kumari Gurjar, Dali Gmeti, Meera Dauja, Vishakha Meghwal, Hemlata Dangi, Mohanlal Gmeti, Kumaram Gmeti, Pranay Tripathi, Yashistha Batra, Mukan Gurjar, Seema Sahu, Prita Kunwar Rathore, Yashoda Gmeti, Gomati Gmeti, Bhagwati Gmeti, and Coach Neeraj Batra.
