Mohanlal Sukhadia University’s Department of Geology is organizing an international seminar as part of its Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the year 2024-2025. The seminar will be held from December 19-21, 2024. The seminar secretary, Shri Akhil Dwivedi, shared that the theme of the seminar is “Earth – From Archaean to Proterozoic Era.” The main objective of the seminar is to discuss recent research and technological developments regarding the Earth’s origin, which is believed to have occurred around 4.6 billion years ago, up until the geological changes and life emergence in the Proterozoic era, about 750 million years ago. It will also focus on mineral and rock formation processes and structural changes on Earth during this period. Notably, the formation of the Aravalli mountain range in Rajasthan took place during this era.
The seminar will feature four technical sessions and one special session where 105 research papers will be presented. Dr. Ritesh Purohit, Head of the Department of Geology, informed that the seminar will be inaugurated on December 19, 2024, at 10:30 AM by Professor R.P. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor of Punjab Central University. Special guests will include Mr. Rup Singh Rawat, Managing Director of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation, Mr. Sumitron Goswami, Chief General Manager of Oil India Limited, and Professor A.B. Rai, former Head of the Department of Geology. The event will be presided over by Professor Sunita Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Mohanlal Sukhadia University.
The concluding ceremony will be held on December 21, 2024, at 2:30 PM, with Dr. Deepak Sinha, CEO of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation, as the chief guest. Other distinguished guests include Mr. J.S. Roy, Scientist at Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, Mr. Deepak Tanwar, Additional Director of the Mining and Geology Department of Rajasthan, and Professor S.C. Khosla, former Head of the Geology Department. The closing ceremony will be chaired by Professor M.S. Dhaka, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Mohanlal Sukhadia University.
The seminar will see participation from 250 researchers and geologists from various universities, research centers, and government departments from India and abroad. International speakers include Professor Joseph Merit from the USA, Professor Graham Shield from the UK, Professors Wang and Santosh from China, Professor Peter from Switzerland, Professor Zhao from Australia, and Professor Mark from Germany. The seminar organizers are Shri Akhil Dwivedi, Dr. Anjali Singh, and Dr. Ankush Srivastava.
