Alumni Association Demands Filling of Vacant Posts at Fisheries College

Udaipur, December 18, 2024: The Alumni Association of MPYUT’s constituent Fisheries College, All India Agricultural Students’ Union, and the student body collectively met with the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Ajeet Kumar Karnataka, and the Registrar, Sudhanshu Singh. During the meeting, they submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate filling of approved vacant academic and non-academic positions at the college.

The memorandum highlighted that despite the Fisheries College being established over fifteen years ago, it still lacks sufficient teaching and non-teaching staff in accordance with the minimum faculty criteria set by ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research). The students requested the Vice Chancellor to take immediate action and issue a notification for the vacant positions, as the majority of positions across departments remain unfilled, which is disrupting both the students’ education and the smooth functioning of the college.

Currently, there are only two full-time professors at the college, with the remaining teaching duties being handled by guest lecturers. Alumni officer Bhavesh Chaudhary expressed concern that the absence of faculty appointments is putting students' futures at risk. Students also mentioned that they had previously met with university officials regarding this issue, but so far, only assurances have been given, with no concrete action taken to fill the vacancies.

The students warned that if no positive action is taken within 15 days, they will be forced to launch a large-scale public awareness campaign and hold protests at the university. They emphasized that to run the college according to ICAR standards, it is essential to fulfill the minimum faculty requirements to provide students with quality education. Due to the shortage of faculty, PG and Ph.D. courses at the college have already been suspended.

The Vice Chancellor agreed to take action and assured that a notification would be issued after the upcoming convocation ceremony. The Registrar also acknowledged the students' concerns and assured that necessary steps would be taken. During the memorandum submission, several students, including senior executive member of the Alumni Association Bhavesh Chaudhary, President of the All India Agricultural Students’ Union Anil Singh Shekhawat, and Kishan Rar, were present.
