Training on Spice Crop Farming and Processing Held in Udaipur

Udaipur: The Directorate of Extension Education, Maharana Pratap Agricultural and Technology University, Udaipur, organized a five-day training program on "Spice Crop Farming and Processing" from March 3 to March 7, 2025.

The closing ceremony of the training was graced by Dr. R.L. Soni, Director of the Directorate of Extension Education, Udaipur, as the chief guest. In his address, Dr. Soni emphasized the importance of spice crop farming and processing, highlighting that spice crops require significantly less water and nutrients compared to many other crops. Additionally, spice cultivation is a lucrative option for farmers to generate higher income. He also mentioned that farmers can enhance their income by producing fruits and vegetables alongside spice crops through various value-added processes.

Dr. S.K. Intodia, Professor, who was the guest of honor, urged the farmers to form Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) after the training to increase their income. He emphasized that instead of selling crops directly after harvest, farmers could earn greater profits through grading, cleaning, packaging, and processing.

Dr. Latika Vyas, the training in-charge, informed that the training was sponsored by the Agriculture Department of ATMA, Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh), and attended by 60 farmers from various villages in the Mandsaur district. During the five-day training, various university scientists provided technical knowledge on agricultural topics. The trainees also visited the university's live units, including the Organic Unit, Polyhouse, Poultry Farming, Dairy, and Fish Farming, and participated in museum visits and film shows, gaining hands-on technical experience.

At the conclusion of the training, a Q&A session was held with the participants, and prizes were awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners. All participants were given consolation prizes and certificates. The ceremony was concluded with a vote of thanks by Hima, while Krishna Sharma managed the event. Shri Hukum Singh Panwar, Block Technical Manager, and Shri Satyendra Singh Shekhar, Assistant Technical Manager (ATMA) from Mandsaur, provided essential support for the training event.
