MPUAT Celebrates World Water Day with Awareness Campaign

Udaipur – On the occasion of World Water Day, the Department of Soil and Water Engineering at CTAE, MPUAT, organized a special program focusing on Glacier Conservation. The event took place at the beautiful Sundar Bai Ki Bawdi located within the CTAE campus. Dr. Arvind Verma, Director of Research, was the chief guest, with Dr. Sunil Joshi, Dean of the College of Technology and Engineering, presiding over the event. Dr. B.L. Meena, Head of NBSS & LUP, was the special guest.

The program began with a traditional water worship ritual, symbolizing the importance of water in our lives. Students and university staff collectively cleaned the Sundar Bai Ki Bawdi, promoting cleanliness and environmental responsibility. Following this, the NSS students showcased posters highlighting the significance of water on World Water Day.

Dr. Arvind Verma, in his speech, emphasized that India, despite being the most populous country, has only 4% of the world's water resources. He stressed the importance of using water judiciously and shared that the university is continuously researching crops that yield more with limited water resources. Dr. B.L. Meena further added that maintaining soil and water quality is a shared responsibility, urging for the limited use of water.

Dr. Sunil Joshi, in his address, highlighted the benefits of sensor-based irrigation systems, which could save 30-70% of water in agriculture. He mentioned that the university is actively researching sensor-based farming techniques. Dr. K.K. Yadav elaborated on the university's projects aimed at water conservation and groundwater quality improvement under irrigation water management. Dr. Manjeet Singh informed attendees about various projects run by the Department of Soil and Water Engineering to promote water conservation and groundwater recharge, including techniques like protected cultivation, hydroponics, and automation to save water.

The event concluded with all guests and students taking a water conservation pledge. The NSS students’ posters left a lasting impression on everyone about the critical need to conserve water. The program was conducted by Mrs. Damini Arya.
