working towards making India extraordinary force in field of sports

Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working towards making India an extraordinary force in the field of sports. Mr. Thakur visited Tamil Nadu yesterday to participate in various programmes. He was accorded a warm welcome by State Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin with a shawl and a bouquet of flowers on his arrival at the new guest house at Omandurar Government Estate.
 Following this, the two ministers held discussions on the development of sports. Speaking to reporters later, Union Minister Mr.Thakur said sports plays an important role in the future of the youth. Noting that several new schemes have been introduced to develop the sports sector in the recent past, the Minister said that as a result, the sports sector is witnessing exponential growth every day.

In particular, he expressed pride in the fact that the players participating in the Khelo India programme are participating in competitions at the international level and are achieving a lot.

Minister Anurag Singh Thakur also said that there is a change in the mindset of parents who would like their children to take sports as a career option. Further, he stated that new programs like the Khelo India youth games and Khelo India winter games have started in which around 15,000 players have participated every year.   He assured that 1,000 Khelo India centers will be opened across the country at least one in each district by 15th August this year.  

As sports is a state subject, the Minister stressed that states have to play a very important role and they should come up with more infrastructure, more competitions, and schemes for the youth.
