Successful Newborn Baby's Food Pipe Operation at PIMS Hospital Udaipur

In Udaipur, doctors at the Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in Umrada have accomplished a successful and complex operation on the oesophagus of a newborn baby. Pediatric surgeon Dr. Atul Mishra shared that the infant from Ambamata was admitted to PIMS Hospital. Weighing only 2 kg, the baby suffered from a tracheoesophageal fistula, where the food pipe is not fully developed and opens into the trachea. This condition affects approximately one in every 3000-4000 newborns. The operation to connect the food pipe lasted for approximately three and a half hours. Following the procedure, the baby required ventilator support for three days before discharge. Dr Mishra emphasized that while PIMS Hospital regularly performs operations, each successful procedure is an accomplishment due to the associated risks and complexities. Dr. Vivek Parashar, Dr Ankit, Dr Rahul, and Dr. Pragi from the Pediatric Department, along with Dr. Amit, Dr. Hardika, and the nursing staff, including Pradeep, Rashi, Shiv, and Rekha from the Anesthesia Department, played vital roles throughout the entire process.

Chairman Ashish Agarwal of PIMS highlighted that the entire treatment for the child was provided free of cost under the Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme, an initiative of the state government. He also emphasized that PIMS Hospital in Umrda is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and is making significant contributions to the medical sector in the Udaipur division.
