Udaipur,A premature baby named Vrinda, weighing just 980 grams, was given a new lease on life at Pacific Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Bedla, Udaipur, after a successful surgery for gastric perforation. Vrinda, the first girl born in three generations, was treated by a team led by pediatric and neonatal surgeon Dr. Praveen Jhanwar, along with anesthesiologists Dr. Prakash Audichya, Dr. Krishnagopal, Dr. Anil, Vishnu, and Sanjay.
Vrinda’s mother had high blood pressure complications during pregnancy, which led to an early delivery. Born prematurely, Vrinda weighed only 1.140 kg at birth and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). On the fifth day, her condition became extremely critical, prompting her family to bring her urgently from Bhilwara to Pacific Hospital.
Tests revealed that Vrinda's intestine had ruptured, and more than half of her stomach tissue was necrotic, necessitating immediate surgical intervention. Dr. Praveen Jhanwar explained that gastric perforation in newborns is a rare but life-threatening condition, most likely to occur within the first few days of life.
Following the surgery, Vrinda was kept in the ICU on a ventilator for nearly two months under the care of Dr. Puneet Jain, Dr. Sunny Malviya, Dr. Palak Jain, Manish, and Kalpesh. Today, Vrinda is fully recovered, weighs 3.5 kg, and has been discharged from the hospital.
Vrinda's family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to PMCH Chairman Rahul Agarwal, the doctors, management, nursing staff, and all other staff members for their dedicated care and support.
