Sri Ganganagar, Following a notice by the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority in Jaipur regarding the increasing drug abuse in the region, all district legal services authorities have been instructed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs. On Friday, Shri Gajendra Singh Tenguria, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Sri Ganganagar (and Additional District and Sessions Judge), convened a meeting with officials from the Drug Control Department, Health Department, and other agencies to discuss measures to curb the growing issue of drug abuse.
During the meeting, Shri Tenguria highlighted the rising trend of drug abuse among children under the age of 18 and directed that effective actions be taken to prevent it. He emphasized the importance of education in the physical and mental development of children. The Education Department was instructed to provide awareness about the harmful effects of drugs in every school, particularly focusing on drug abuse prevention. Awareness programs should be organized at the school level, and a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol should be implemented during office hours.
Shri Tenguria also directed representatives from the Health Department to identify individuals involved in drug abuse through de-addiction centers or surveys, and to provide appropriate treatment with the help of psychiatrists. The data of such individuals should be recorded to ensure proper care. Furthermore, the Medical Department was instructed to take strict action against those involved in the illegal sale of narcotic substances, as per regulations.
Officials from various departments were also urged to submit their suggestions regarding the prevention, treatment, and remedial measures for drug abuse. This would help create a framework for effective implementation, aiming to make the region free from drugs.
The meeting was attended by Shri Vishnu Khatri, Sub-Divisional Officer of Sri Ganganagar, Assistant Director of the Department of Child Rights Shri Rajeev Jakhad, Shri Ashok Mittal from the District Drug Department, and Dr. Brijesh Kumar and Shri Girjesh Kant Sharma from the Education Department.
