Udaipur – Newly elected Rajasthan Wrestling Federation President and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s special privilege holder, Rajeev Datta, visited Udaipur on Saturday. On his first visit to the city after assuming office, Datta received a grand welcome from the District Wrestling Federation and various sports organizations.
At the civic felicitation ceremony held at the Town Hall, former mayors Paras Singhvi and Devnarayan Dhabhai, District Sports Officer Mahesh Paliwal, Yashwant Paliwal, Chandrapal Singh Chundawat (Cricket Association), Kanhaiyalal Dhabhai (Volleyball Association), Dilip Singh (Basketball Association), Vikas Sahu (Chess Association), Sukhadia University Sports Officer Bheemraj Patel, Bhupal Nobles University’s Bhupendra Singh Chauhan, Softball Association’s Karan Singh Chundawat, Prahlad Chauhan, and representatives from chess, judo, kabaddi, kho-kho, swimming, and volleyball associations welcomed him.
Additionally, district sports officials, national-level players, coaches, business associations, and social representatives honored Datta. Before the event, a grand vehicle rally was taken out through the city's main roads, where enthusiastic citizens extended their greetings. At the Circuit House, prominent dignitaries of Udaipur also welcomed him. On this occasion, Cooperation Minister Gautam Dak congratulated him on his new responsibilities.
Wrestling to Get a New Platform
During a press meet, Rajeev Datta shared details about initiatives to promote wrestling and develop players in Rajasthan. He stated that various schemes are being implemented to encourage wrestling in the state. These include providing modern facilities like wrestling mats at the local level, ensuring better nutrition for players, and creating platforms for national and international exposure.
He emphasized that district wrestling federations and state officials have been instructed to work in coordination. Regular wrestling competitions will be organized at the district level, enabling talented wrestlers from Rajasthan to shine nationally, much like Haryana.
During his visit to Udaipur, Rajeev Datta also visited the Shri Eklingji Temple and Shri Nathji Temple in Nathdwara, where he offered prayers and sought blessings.
Gold Medalist Daughter Awarded ₹51,000
At the Circuit House, Rajasthan Wrestling Federation President Rajeev Datta honored Sonia Od, who won a gold medal at the National Federation Championship held in Chandigarh.
Upon learning about Sonia's financial struggles, Datta presented her with a ₹51,000 incentive check on behalf of the Wrestling Federation. He extended his best wishes for her bright future, expressing confidence that she would achieve even greater success in the coming years.
