– A free diabetes check-up camp was organized on Friday at the Government Model Dispensary in Sindhi Bazaar, Udaipur, to mark Maharishi Charak Jayanti. The in-charge of the dispensary, Dr. Shobhalal Audichya, informed that a large number of local residents participated in the camp. During the event, patients were examined and provided with appropriate medical advice. All attendees benefited from free diabetes check-ups along with medical consultations.
The event saw the presence of several prominent individuals, including Yogi Ashok Jain, Prem Jain, Bharat Swarnkar, Manju Sharma, Seema Mehta, Rachit Swarnkar, Jitendra Babel, Bhanu Bapna, Rakesh Tambi, Kamla Tambi, Kanchan Kumar Damor, Gajendra Ameta, Garima Meena, and Bhagwati Lal Lodha.
Dr. Audichya highlighted Maharishi Charak's contributions to Ayurveda, mentioning that he is renowned as the "Father of Ayurveda." Born around 200 BCE in the village of Kapisthal in Kashmir’s Poonch district, Maharishi Charak pursued Ayurveda after in-depth study of the Vedas and Upanishads. He discovered and preserved the fragmented teachings of the Agnivesha Tantra, created by Maharishi Punarvasu Atreya and Acharya Agnivesha, leading to the composition of the Charaka Samhita, which remains a seminal text in Ayurveda.
The Charaka Samhita outlines the principles of medicine and details the Tridosha theory, which emphasizes the balance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha as the foundation of health. Maharishi Charak’s teachings on drug selection and usage have significantly contributed to the development of medical practices.
Dr. Audichya further explained that Maharishi Charak’s theories continue to be relevant and beneficial in modern medicine. During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Ayurvedic institutions applied Charak's Tridosha theory in treatments with success. Similarly, his principles have been effective in treating infectious diseases like swine flu, typhoid, and malaria. Maharishi Charak’s mention of herbal formulations like Chyawanprash, known for their efficacy in respiratory and Kapha-related disorders, was also noted.
Maharishi Charak’s contributions extend beyond medicine, offering therapeutic approaches to conditions like leprosy, skin diseases, mental disorders, and diabetes. He also emphasized the significance of medicinal plants and highlighted the benefits of herbs like Triphala, Amla, and Turmeric.
