Udaipur – The number of educated unemployed individuals within the tribal communities in India is continuously declining. This trend is a result of various central government schemes aimed not only at providing employment but also at enhancing their employability. Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, shared this information in response to an unstarred question posed by Udaipur MP Dr. Manna Lal Rawat in the Lok Sabha. She stated that according to the PLFS report, the estimated unemployment rate among the tribal community was 3.4% in 2019-20, 2.7% in 2020-21, 2.4% in 2021-22, and 1.8% in 2022-23.
Highlighting the efforts to provide employment to these individuals, the Union Minister mentioned that the Government of India has undertaken several initiatives across the country, including in Rajasthan. Various ministries and departments such as the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, the Ministry of Rural Development, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Textiles, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology are implementing multiple employment generation schemes and programs. These include the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), Rural Self Employment and Training Institutes (RSETI), Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), and the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY). Additionally, increased capital expenditure to boost employment generation is also part of the strategy.
Moreover, the government is implementing various skill development schemes through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) under the Prime Minister's Skill Development Scheme (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS). From 2019-20 to 2022-23, these schemes have benefited 1,107,220 individuals in Rajasthan, including those from Scheduled Tribes.
