Eco Friendly Molela Terracotta Design Workshop at SPSU

Fostering art, culture, sustainability, and creative acumen, the Centre for Innovation in Skills and Social Entrepreneurship (CISSE) and Dept. of Design, Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur, organized Molela Terracottadesign workshop on August 22, 2023. Prof. (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee, Honourable President and Vice-Chancellor, emphasized the university's commitment to promoting such workshops, exemplifying its dedication to holistic education and facilitating learning beyond textbooks, engaging with real-world experiences, and enriching the personal and cultural growth of the students. Renowned artisan Mr. MannalalKumhar and his team conducted the session where the students gained hands-on experience of crafting beautiful eco-friendly clay articles and ceramic tiles using the unique Molela Terracotta technique. Mitali Thapa, a B.Tech CSE student, stated that the workshop enabled students to learn a traditional craft and helped them connect with their cultural roots, and understand the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous art forms. During the workshop, students had the opportunity to learn about the history, cultural importance, and technical aspects of Molela Terracotta. The artisan's team guided them at various stages of the craft-making process, from shaping the clay to intricate detailing and finishing touches. Dr. Shibani Banerjee, Director of Public Relations, and Dr. Shweta Lalwani, Head of the School of Management, organized the workshop.
