Regional Parties Challenge Congress and BJP Dominance

Political Battle Unfolds in Dungarpur

In a surprising turn of events, Dungarpur in southern Rajasthan witnessed a significant voter turnout in the recent elections, with an overall voting percentage of 75.38%. The district comprises four assembly seats, with notable percentages in each: Dungarpur at 72.76%, Aspur at 73.71%, Chorasi at 81.76%, and Sagwara at 73.73%.

While major national political parties focused on wooing tribal voters, regional parties seem to be gaining ground. In the previous election, the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) secured victories on two seats, challenging the Congress and BJP stronghold.

This time around, the BTP leaders who had won in Chorasi and Sagwara are once again in the fray, but under the banner of the Bharat Adiwasi Party (BAP). With strong contenders from both the BTP and the BJP, the Congress and BJP face a formidable challenge.

Sagwara and Chorasi were won by the BTP in the last assembly elections. However, all parties are on edge this time, especially with the tribal party's influence growing in the region.

Aspur constituency features BJP's Umesh Meena, who secured the seat in the previous election. Congress has fielded Rakesh Rot against him, while the BAP has its candidate. Aspur witnessed a voting percentage of 73.71%.

In Sagwara, Congress candidate Kailash Bhil is up against BJP's Shankarlal Decha. In the previous election, Ramprasad Dindor of the BTP won this seat, but he is now contesting on a BAP ticket. Sagwara recorded a voting percentage of 73.73%.

Chorasi constituency sees a face-off between Congress candidate Tarachand Bhagora and BJP's Sushil Kataria. The previous election was won by the BJP, but this time, the BTP candidate is giving a tough fight. Chorasi recorded the highest voting percentage at 81.76%.

Both the Congress and BJP made extensive efforts to connect with tribal communities, with prominent national leaders addressing rallies. Despite these efforts, regional parties like BTP and BAP are emerging as significant contenders, posing a threat to the traditional dominance of Congress and BJP in the region. The outcome of this electoral battle remains uncertain, promising an interesting political scenario in Dungarpur.
