Rajasthan Residents Have High Expectations from Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and His Government Regarding the State Budget

Rajasthan Residents Anticipate Budget from Bhajan Lal Government

The full-fledged budget of Bhajan Lal Sharma's government will be presented on July 10 in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Diya Kumari will present the budget. Previously, due to the general elections, only a vote on account for regular expenses could be passed in the assembly.

Special preparations are being made by the Bhajan Lal government for the budget session. The BJP-led state government is strategizing to corner the opposition in the assembly based on various issues and identifying flaws in the previous Congress government. All major departmental heads have been asked to provide information on six points related to their respective departments. Lists are being made of tasks left incomplete by the previous government, including important issues like the Jal Jeevan Mission and electricity production. The government is also gathering information on budget and administrative issues from the previous administration, as well as compiling cases related to various FIRs and investigations. Issues unresolved by the previous government but addressed by the BJP government are also being highlighted. On the government's directive, officials from all departments have started preparing and submitting the required lists.

Amidst all these discussions, the people of Rajasthan have high hopes from the upcoming state budget presented by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and his government.

When discussing the holistic development of Rajasthan, considering its historical, geographical, social, cultural, political, and tourism background, it is essential to address the state's geographical disparities, water scarcity, natural disasters, and numerous challenges in international border areas.

The new government, led by BJP's Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, has been working for over six months. The government may face several political and administrative challenges. Along with adopting new resolutions, the government must also show commitment to the promises made in its election manifesto.

Addressing plans related to water scarcity and natural disasters affecting the people and farmers of Rajasthan should be the government's top priority. Solving diseases caused by fluoride-contaminated water is also crucial. The Bhajan Lal government should prioritize initiating the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), which aims to supply drinking and irrigation water to 21 districts of Eastern Rajasthan, costing over ₹40,000 crore. Given that Chief Minister Sharma is from Eastern Rajasthan and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has served as the Union Minister of Water Resources, this project should be expedited. Additionally, implementing the plan to bring Yamuna water to the Shekhawati regions should be realized.

Moreover, Rajasthan needs to resolve its share of 0.60 MAF water from the Ravi-Beas river, which Punjab has not yet released. The state also needs a full-time permanent member and secretary in the Bhakra-Beas Management Board and to address the issue of reduced Yamuna water for Bharatpur, among other inter-state water and electricity agreements. The government should push for Rajasthan's special state status to address issues related to higher service costs in desert areas, frequent natural disasters, and the need for basic services like roads, water, and electricity.

Given that western Rajasthan's Barmer district shares the country's longest international border with Pakistan, the state should seek more central assistance for road development and preventing cross-border infiltration, illegal arms, and drug trafficking. Efforts should also be made to install high-capacity TV towers to prevent cultural pollution.

The Bhajan Lal cabinet should prioritize the ambitious Pachpadra Barmer oil refinery and petrochemical complex project to provide employment to thousands and generate significant revenue for the state.

Despite progress in rail and road projects over the past years, several rail projects, such as the long-pending Ratlam-Banswara-Dungarpur, Ajmer-Sawai Madhopur-Tonk, Pushkar-Merta, and Mewar-Marwar via Kamli Ghat, need to be expedited. Completing the remaining national highway projects is also essential. The Bhajan Lal government needs to intensify efforts in these areas.

To boost Rajasthan's tourism industry and preserve its ancient heritage, the state should be declared a heritage state by the central government, and more funds should be secured. Religious tourism circuits should be developed, similar to those in Varanasi, Ujjain, and Ayodhya.

The issue of including the Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution has been pending for years. The state government should prioritize resolving this sensitive issue that resonates with the citizens' sentiments. The government should also introduce Rajasthani language education in schools per the new education policy.

The Bhajan Lal government should revive the dormant MP cell in the state government's residential commissioner office at Bikaner House, New Delhi, to effectively raise Rajasthan's interests in Parliament. Regular meetings with the state's MPs and proper coordination with the state government should be re-established. Additionally, a special cell for Non-Resident Rajasthanis (NRRs) should be established in New Delhi to promote investment and gather development suggestions from NRRs worldwide.

Implementing these new resolutions will ensure that, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, a truly effective double-engine government is established in Rajasthan.

Geographically, Rajasthan is the largest state in India, attracting the world with its historical sites, forts, palaces, and deserts. It is a land of valor, sacrifice, and devotion, with a rich cultural heritage, colorful festivals, exquisite arts and crafts, folk music, literature, and delicious cuisine.

Rajasthanis are known for their entrepreneurship and trade skills, contributing significantly to India's economy. Many of India's prominent industrialists hail from Rajasthan. The state's contribution to national defense is also notable, with a significant number of soldiers in the Indian Army and the highest number of martyrs from the Shekhawati region.

Rajasthan's potential in tourism, minerals, and renewable energy is immense. Projects like the Pachpadra oil refinery and the establishment of the world's largest solar hub in western Rajasthan promise economic progress and job creation. The state is also a major tourist destination, part of the Golden Triangle, attracting millions of domestic and international tourists annually.

It remains to be seen how Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, as the Finance Minister, will fulfill the expectations of the people of Rajasthan in this year's budget.
