###Fisheries College Celebrates Fish Farmers Day

Udaipur,  Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology's constituent Fisheries College in Udaipur celebrated the 24th Indian Fish Farmers Day on Wednesday. The event was attended by Associate Professor Dr. M.L. Ojha, Assistant Professor Dr. Suman Thakar, Technical Assistant Babulal Jat, college staff, and students. 

On this occasion, Dr. M.L. Ojha explained that Fish Farmers Day is celebrated every year on July 10, marking its first celebration in India on July 10, 1957. This day commemorates the successful induced breeding of India's major carp fish using pituitary hormone by fisheries scientists Professor Hiralal Chaudhary and Dr. K.H. Alikunhi in Kundura, Odisha. Dr. Ojha highlighted that Fish Farmers Day is observed annually to honor the significant achievement of Dr. Hiralal Chaudhary and Dr. K.H. Alikunhi, and he discussed the bright future and economic opportunities in fish farming. He emphasized the role of induced breeding in ushering the "Blue Revolution" in fish farming, which has positioned India as the second-largest fish producer in the world.

Assistant Professor Dr. Suman Thakar stated that the purpose of Fish Farmers Day is to promote the Blue Revolution in fisheries, recognize the entrepreneurship of fish farmers, and honor those involved in fish farming. The day, celebrated annually on July 10, aims to enhance production and productivity. Dr. Thakar also informed students about the employment opportunities and future prospects in fish farming, highlighting the importance of selecting quality seeds for breeding, which significantly contributes to the growth and productivity of fish.

During the celebration, the students also shared their thoughts and ideas on fish farming.
