###46th Session of the World Heritage Committee to be Held in New Delhi from July 21 to 31

The 46th session of the World Heritage Committee will be held from July 21 to 31 at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on July 21.

This is the first mega event in India during Prime Minister Modi's third term, featuring participation from culture ministers of over 20 countries and 3,000 delegates from 195 nations. UNESCO's Director-General, Madam Audrey Azoulay, senior officials from the UNESCO World Heritage Secretariat, various countries' culture ministers, ambassadors, and domain experts will attend the inauguration.

At a press conference in New Delhi's National Media Center, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, emphasized the significance of this event in showcasing India's diverse and unique cultural and natural heritage to the world. Joining him were Vishal V. Sharma, India's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, and ASI Director-General Yaduvir Singh Rawat. The press conference was moderated by Dhirendra Ojha, Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau.

Shekhawat praised the Ministry of Culture for organizing the meeting within 40 days and highlighted that this international meeting would strengthen India's soft power globally, providing opportunities for global outreach.

The emblem of the 46th World Heritage Committee session is inspired by the World Heritage Site of Hampi, featuring the stone chariot of the Vijaya Vittal Temple. The tagline "Sah Nau Yashah" translates to "May our glory increase," reflecting India's aspirations and efforts to enhance the scope of the World Heritage Conference.

The 46th session will involve representatives from around the world discussing the conservation of our shared cultural, natural, and mixed heritage. ASI's Additional Director General, Janhvez Sharma, provided details about the history and functioning of the World Heritage Committee and the upcoming session's agenda, including the World Heritage Young Professionals Forum and the World Heritage Site Managers' Forum.

Shekhawat also announced side events and exhibitions to be held during the meeting, showcasing India's rich cultural and natural heritage, digital transformation, and holistic medicinal practices. The Ministry of AYUSH will organize an exhibition on Ayurveda, and morning yoga and meditation sessions will be conducted for delegates.

Local tours and excursions to heritage sites are planned for delegates to experience India's rich heritage. Shekhawat acknowledged the role of the Indian diaspora as cultural ambassadors, highlighting their active participation in such events.

India, serving its fourth term on the 21-member World Heritage Committee, has added 42 properties to the World Heritage List, including cultural, natural, and mixed heritage sites. In the past decade, 12 sites have been added, with Santiniketan and Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysala recently included. India ranks sixth globally and second in the Asia-Pacific region in the number of World Heritage Sites, with 57 sites on the tentative list.
