Dr. Manisha Presented Research on Vaginal Microbiome at ESHRE-2024

Udaipur,  Dr. Manisha Vajpayee, the Scientific Director of the IVF Department at Pacific Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), presented her research on vaginal microbiome at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE-2024) conference held in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dr. Manisha Vajpayee was the only representative from Rajasthan chosen to present her research at this prestigious conference, marking a significant achievement for Udaipur.

Dr. Manisha Vajpayee highlighted that despite advancements in IVF technology, the success rate of IVF globally remains between 50% and 60%. Many unsuccessful cases remain unexplained even after conducting genetic tests like PGT and PGS, with endometrium also being in good condition.

Dr. Vajpayee emphasized the important role of the vaginal microbiome in women's health. The vaginal microbiome is a complex community of microorganisms residing in the vagina, affecting various health outcomes, including in vitro fertilization (IVF) results.

Studies have shown that the composition of the vaginal microbiome can influence IVF outcomes. An abundance of Lactobacillus species is indicative of a healthy vaginal microbiome and is associated with positive IVF outcomes. Conversely, the presence of pathogenic bacteria in the vaginal microbiome can reduce IVF success rates.

Testing and treating imbalances in women's vaginal microbiome could be crucial in improving IVF success rates. Regular monitoring and management of the vaginal microbiome have been shown to enhance IVF treatment outcomes. This research represents one of the initial reports on this subject globally and is the first study of its kind in India. The research has the potential to add new dimensions to infertility treatment.

Experts from around the world at the conference praised this research. The international conference saw the participation of hundreds of IVF specialists from across the globe.
