###Amrit Mathur Shares Cricket Stories

Udaipur: Former Indian cricket team manager Amrit Mathur shared unheard tales and untold stories from his book "Pitchside" at the Udaipur Tales' 'Stories Relived' event held at Hotel Lake End.

Amrit Mathur highlighted the significant changes in the role of a cricket manager from the past to the present, noting the increased challenges faced by current managers compared to earlier times.

One of the most memorable moments in Indian cricket history, according to Mathur, was the Multan Test. In that match, Sachin Tendulkar was batting at 195 runs when captain Rahul Dravid declared the innings. Tendulkar was visibly shocked and furious when he returned to the dressing room. Mathur recalled calming him down and persuading him to rejoin the field for fielding.

Another unforgettable incident Mathur shared was from the 2002 NatWest Series final at Lord's. Under Sourav Ganguly's captaincy, India won the final in a dramatic fashion. Ganguly's famous shirt-waving celebration on the balcony remains etched in the memories of cricket fans. The victory, after several ups and downs, was a significant moment for Indian cricket.

Mathur praised Udaipur's contribution to cricket in Rajasthan, highlighting the support from local Maharajas. He also mentioned legendary cricketer Salim Durani, whose presence would draw spectators to Ranji matches, who would leave the ground once he was out.

Recalling Sachin Tendulkar's expertise, Mathur noted how Tendulkar's deep understanding of the pitch and soil helped him score runs. He also praised Yuvraj Singh as a match-winner for India and drew parallels between Yuvraj and Tiger Pataudi.

Mathur shared how Pakistan's Imran Khan positively impacted the game by requesting neutral umpires from the ICC to improve the image of Pakistan cricket. Despite on-field rivalries, players maintained friendships off the field. He credited Sourav Ganguly for teaching India how to win matches and praised his ability to spot and nurture talent. Mathur also expressed gratitude to Madhavrao Scindia, former President of the BCCI, for giving him a chance in cricket, calling it his "golden visa."

The event was moderated by Rajat Meghnani. Udaipur Tales' founder, Salil Bhandari, explained that this new initiative provides a platform for personalities to share their untold stories. The event saw the presence of local cricket players, former Test umpires, and distinguished citizens. Co-founder Sushmita Singha presented Amrit Mathur with a memento and extended her gratitude.
