### MP Dr. Rawat Demands Highway Upgrade

**MP Dr. Rawat Demands Upgrading Salumber-Aspur State Highway to National Highway**
*Letter sent to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari*

Udaipur: MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat has written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, requesting the declaration of the Udaipur-Banswara via Salumber, Aspur State Highway (SH-32) as a National Highway and its conversion into a four-lane road.
Dr. Rawat, through his letter, informed the minister that the current width of the road is inadequate for the traffic passing through it. This road is the only main route connecting the tribal regions of southern Rajasthan. Due to its narrow width and poorly aligned geometric structure, the road leads to delays and fuel wastage, along with frequent serious accidents. The road connects the divisional headquarters of Udaipur and Banswara, making it a vital route in the Mewar and Vagad regions.

### **Why is this necessary?**
Dr. Rawat emphasized that upgrading this state highway to a national highway and converting it into a four-lane road will benefit 9 assembly constituencies and 2 parliamentary constituencies. It will also bring new development opportunities to the region. The area has agricultural and dairy production hubs such as the Jakham, Som-Kamla-Amba, and Mahi projects, and the proposed national highway will provide better connectivity to major markets across the country.

### **Connecting Two National Highways Will Benefit Over One Crore Residents**
The proposed national highway will connect the Golden Quadrilateral (NH-48) and East-West Corridor (NH-27) in Udaipur to two national highways (NH-56 and NH-927A) leading to Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat from Banswara. This road will benefit over one crore local residents, 70% of whom are from tribal areas.

**MP Dr. Rawat Requests to Retain Salumber District as It Is**
*Urges inclusion of Aspur and Sabla subdivisions*

Amid discussions about the restructuring of newly formed districts in the state, MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat has written a letter to the Chief Minister, requesting that Salumber district remain unchanged. He also urged that other subdivisions like Aspur and Sabla be merged with Salumber for the convenience of the public. Dr. Rawat highlighted concerns that any restructuring of Salumber district could negatively impact the region's cultural unity, social structure, and administrative ease. He emphasized the need to retain Salumber district as it is and include nearby areas to promote the region's integrated development and social prosperity.
Since Salumber was declared a district, there has been a significant improvement in the administrative processes, benefiting both the locals and the government.

### **Salumber District Brings Relief to Locals**
Dr. Rawat supported his plea by highlighting several key points in favor of retaining Salumber district. He mentioned that over 70% of the population in the district belongs to tribal communities, which are economically and educationally backward. Prior to Salumber becoming a district, locals had to travel around 90 kilometers to Udaipur for administrative matters. Since the formation of the district, residents now have easier access to government services in their locality.

### **Salumber: An Important Hub**
Dr. Rawat also noted that Salumber has become a crucial center for the region’s history, economy, and cultural identity. People in the surrounding areas have long depended on Salumber for their needs and economic prosperity.
