Launch of Tobacco Cessation Center at PIMS Hospital, Umarada

Udaipur. The Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in Umarada has inaugurated a Tobacco Cessation Center aimed at helping individuals who wish to quit nicotine (tobacco). The center was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Dr. Prakash Nahar, Principal Dr. Sureshchandra Goyal, and Medical Superintendent Dr. Chandra Mathur. Located near the hospital's emergency and registration services in Room No. 7, the center is equipped to provide comprehensive support.

Professor Praveen Khairkar serves as the nodal officer, with Dr. Pranav Kumar as the assistant nodal officer. Psychiatrists Dr. Archish Khivasara and Dr. Rohan Modi will assist individuals seeking to quit. Dr. Mansi Sharma will oversee patient care as the coordinator, while psychologist Indrapal Salvi will offer counseling services. Additionally, social worker Tarachand will facilitate communication between patients and the hospital. This center not only aims to support general patients but also seeks to inspire all medical students to lead healthier lives. This initiative will contribute to improving healthcare services.

The center is part of a broader initiative inspired by Health Minister J.P. Nadda, who aims to liberate youth from the harmful effects of nicotine. In India, tobacco claims the lives of approximately 1.2 million people each year, equating to about 3,700 deaths daily. The PIMS center is part of a national program focused on tobacco cessation, with collaboration among medical colleges across the country. This program will also provide follow-up services and telephonic advice for patients. The center's inauguration coincided with a lamp lighting ceremony held in Delhi, attended by representatives from all participating medical colleges.
